Where the prices come from
We take the base price of gold, silver, platinum and palladium from MetalFlow, which publishes market quotes in US dollars per troy ounce. Our app converts those quotes into euros and into a price per gram, so the pages show a value that has already been recalculated rather than raw feed data.
How often prices refresh
Live prices are fetched every five minutes and daily (historical) prices once a day. The bar at the top of each page shows whether the figure came from MetalFlow and when the last data point arrived. If the feed is unavailable we show clearly marked sample figures instead of quietly presenting them as live prices.
How the price per gram is calculated
A market ounce is a troy ounce of 31.1034768 g. The price of a gram of fine gold equals the spot price per ounce divided by 31.1034768. Alloys are scaled by their fine-gold share: 585 means 58.5 %, 750 means 75 %, 916 means 91.6 % and 999.9 means 99.99 %.
Why the buyback price is lower than spot
The spot price is what gold is worth on the world market at that moment. A buyer deducts a margin that covers refining, risk and financing, so the offer you receive is lower. The buyback calculator shows the expected offer at a margin you set yourself — margins differ from dealer to dealer.
Premiums on bars and coins
The investment gold calculator uses estimated premiums above the metal value, which depend on the product. A premium is manufacturing cost and dealer margin: you pay it when buying, but it is not recovered in full when you sell.
What our prices are not
We do not track individual dealers or their terms. Prices are indicative, are not investment advice and are not an offer to buy or sell. Before a transaction, ask for a written quote and have the weight and fineness checked.
Frequently asked questions
Do you buy gold yourself?+
No. ZlatoDanas is an information site with prices and calculators. We do not buy or sell gold and we do not act as a broker for a specific dealer.
Who is MetalFlow?+
MetalFlow is the data provider behind the prices on this site. The access key is stored on our server, so it is never sent to your browser and raw provider errors are not shown to visitors.
Why is the price different from my local jeweller's?+
Jewellers and buyers add their own margin, VAT and costs, so their figures cannot match the market price exactly. Compare the same weight and fineness, and ask for the terms in writing.
How do I report a wrong price?+
Write to the address on the contact page with the page URL and the time you saw it. We check the recorded feed and correct the page if the display was wrong.
